Are you looking for a location that is less than a 90 minute drive from most of the population centers in Western Washington: Seattle, the East Side (Bothell, Redmond, Kirkland, Bellevue, Issaquah), and even closer to Kent, Auburn, Puyallup, Tacoma, Olympia.

Would you like a fun place for quality time with loved ones and plenty to do with Community Beaches, Parks, Boat Ramp & Boat Docks?

Would you value a place with a sense of security where access is only available to owners, their guests and Real Estate Brokers via the regularly scheduled community owned Ferry.

2-Herron_Ferry  What if I told you this great sounding place is a reality and it is also a private island in South Puget SoundImagine owning a piece of an idyllic private island!

You may be thinking this sounds financially prohibitive, but you’d be very incorrect.   There currently is an incredible range of properties and price points for everyone.  You currently can find undeveloped lots available for sale for less than $10,000,  move-in-ready cabins for less than $150K, waterfront cabins (homes), for about $200K or less!….and I’m talking nice places, not rundown fixers.  Of course there are properties that are higher and properties priced everywhere in between.  So there really is something here for everyone.

Now, that I have hopefully piqued your attention, you are probably wondering what’s the catch?  What is the problem with this place?  Answer:  Absolutely nothing! Herron Island is a place where your dreams can become a reality, right now!  If you’ve been thinking about a vacation or second home or a place to park an RV, or a property where you can enjoy camping, but maybe build your dream home later, don’t wait!  Herron Island is still relatively undiscovered, but we don’t believe it will always be this way.  It’s a supply/demand situation where supply is currently plentiful but demand has been increasing, and you know what that means…prices can only increase in the future, so grab your piece of paradise now and create a legacy for your family or loved ones to enjoy for generations.

Today, Herron Island is one of the very few private islands in all of Western Washington.   The island was incorporated on April 30, 1958 as Herron Maintenance Co. (HMC), a non-profit, non-stock Washington corporation consisting of the owners  of property on Herron Island.  HMC is governed by its ByLaws and administered by a nonsalaried Board of Trustees elected annually from the membership.  The Board is responsible for overseeing the operations and maintenance of the corporation’s properties, and establishing a balanced budget to fund these operations.  Herron Island is funded solely by annual and special assessments paid by the members and by the ferry fee and the island does not receive any funding from the local, state or federal government, so governing control is maintained by all of the owners via HMC.

Common properties include:

-The North Beach area with Parking, open and covered picnic areas, boat ramp,  small boat docks and hundreds of feet of no bank waterfront beach.

– Numerous greenbelt lots throughout the island, including some community gardens.

All other land (over 400 lots +/-,  is privately owned.  Ownership of waterfront lots includes the tidelands down to the mean sea level.

The annual cost to have use and access to all of these wonderful amenities is less than $1800/yr for a single property assessment, which works out to less than $150/month.

Typical monthly water costs are about $15. and the owner fare for a round-trip ride on the ferry (about a 10 minute crossing time) with car and driver is only $8.00  You can also park on the mainland at the island leased parking area and walk-on to the Ferry for $3.00 round trip.

Herron Island is a unique and beautiful place in the Puget Sound Region, with abundant wildlife and friendly residents.  Though you may not know everyone, expect to be waved at when you walk or drive-by other islanders, an acknowledgement of the undiscovered paradise you share.

Like a biblical scene, even the Deer here (island pets) are calm and friendly enough to eat right out of your hand, a special thrill for everyone; of course many people buy special feed to keep them healthy and happy.

The island is approximately 1.25 miles long, and 0.5  miles across and there are about 120 full-time residents, and many more second home owners “weekenders”.
